BioHygiene was founded by a group of innovators who believed that businesses should never have to choose between sustainability, cost, and performance. From the outset, the company focused on proving that biotechnology could outperform traditional chemical methods while being safer for people and the planet.
Originally known as Biological Preparations, the company began by supplying the professional market with specialist own-label formulations made entirely from renewable, biobased resources. Each product was developed to achieve exceptional cleaning performance with minimal environmental impact, helping customers enhance their brands through sustainable excellence.
Our Home in Wales
In 2012, BioHygiene established its manufacturing base in Caerphilly, Wales. The facility was designed as a model of sustainable production, supporting local employment while minimizing environmental impacts across the entire lifecycle of its products.
The company’s operations are built around a zero-waste approach, focused on preventing emissions and reducing CO₂e from raw material extraction through to product end-of-life. This dedication to responsible manufacturing remains a defining part of BioHygiene’s identity.
Key Sustainable Milestones
From the beginning, BioHygiene aligned its goals with the United Nations Millennium Development Goals, placing environmental responsibility and innovation at the heart of its mission. When these goals evolved into the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in 2015, the company quickly adapted, reaffirming its commitment to higher global standards for sustainability.
During this period, BioHygiene attracted private equity investment to further expand its reach and amplify the message of environmental biotechnology.
By 2017, the company identified a need for a new generation of eco-conscious cleaning products. After three years of research and development, BioHygiene launched its flagship line, setting new benchmarks for sustainability, cost efficiency, and cleaning performance across the professional hygiene market.
In 2020, amid the global COVID-19 pandemic, BioHygiene introduced a new range of carbon-neutral, sustainable surface and hand sanitisers that helped protect people while safeguarding the environment.
Today, Tomorrow, and Beyond
Today, BioHygiene leads the biotechnology cleaning revolution in the UK and beyond. Its products deliver exceptional cleaning results through science-driven innovation, all while maintaining an unwavering commitment to carbon reduction, safety, and sustainability.
By redefining what it means to clean responsibly, BioHygiene continues to inspire businesses to choose smarter, greener hygiene solutions that protect both people and the planet.
